Tittle: “ A Profound Act of Faith and Identification with Christ”

Today, we gather with joy as we welcome Madeleine, three months old, into our Christian family through the sacrament of baptism.

The Sacrament of Baptism is a profound Act of Faith and Identification with Christ

As we gather around this precious child, we are reminded of the immense blessing and gift that she is to her family, Zachary and Kathryn.

In today’s second reading, Paul reminds us that baptism is not just a ritual, but a profound act of faith. It is an expression of identification with Jesus death and resurrection.  Baptism gives us the privilege and grace to rise again with Christ, as the Father raised Him from the dead by His mighty hand.

As we celebrate Madeleine’s baptism, we are invited to think about our own baptismal promises and the power of faith in our lives. May our celebration today serve as a renewal of our personal commitment to following Christ, and may Madeleine’s baptism serve as a source of inspiration and joy for all of us.

This morning, we extend a warm welcome to Madeleine into the Christian community through the sacrament of Baptism. Not only are we expressing our joy, but we also pledge to provide her valuable teaching values such as empathy, respect, self-awareness, compassion and agape  love.

Zachary and Kathryn, with your faith in Jesus Christ, your medical expertise and loving care, you will nurture Madeleine’s physical health and supporting her emotional, psychological and spiritual growth. This strong foundation will help her become a compassionate and effective disciple an effective leader who will make a positive difference in this broken world full of violence and hatred.

In the second reading today, Romans 6:1-11, the Apostle Paul talks about how baptism represents our union with Christ.

This biblical text suggests four theological aspects.

First, Baptism represents our identification with Christ’s death and burial, signifying the end of our old life and our sin being ‘buried’ with Him.

Second, Baptism shows a spiritual connection and solidarity with Christ.

Third, Just as Christ was raised from the dead, we too are raised to walk in the newness of life. This represents our spiritual renewal and the beginning of our new life in Christ.

Lastly, our union with Christ through baptism ensures our participation in Christ’s resurrection power, enabling us to live a transformed life.

In essence, this text demonstrates how baptism serves as a powerful symbol of our spiritual transformation, union with Christ, and new life in Him. In baptism, we publicly declare our faith and identify with Christ’s redemptive work, which enables us to live a life that reflects His agape love, his commandment mentioned in the great commission.

Zachary, Kathryn, and all god parents, I invite each of you to embody the symbolism of the baptism, that means to commit yourselves to live a life guided by the Christian values so that you may be well prepared to help Madeleine achieve a new life by:

    – Nurturing her curiosity and encouraging empathy, respect, compassion, responsibility, self-awareness,  emotional intelligence, developing creative, imaginative, problem-solving skills, and love, Jesus’ commandment.

Zachary, Kathryn and god’s parents – Just as baptism represents union with Jesus Christ,  please, unite with Madeleine in her journey; help her build a solid foundation, and a new spiritual life.

– Paul says that he was buried with Christ and raised to new life.

I urge you to help Madeleine navigate challenges, letting go of limitations, and emerge stronger, wiser, and more resilient in this broken world.

Dear Madeleine’ s parents, your expertise in medical can be seen as a manifestation of the theological aspects of baptism. You will help Madeleine grow, learn, and become a true disciple for Jesus Christ.

Let us celebrate Madeleine’s baptism, which promises new life in Christ. May her parents, Zachary and Kathryn, continue to help her grow, modeling Jesus’ teaching.

All God’s people who are gathering today, may we all be reminded of our own baptismal promises and the transformative power of faith as we welcome Madeleine into our Christian family. May this  celebration inspire us to follow Christ more closely, and may Madeleine’s life be a testament to the joy and the love of our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
